“We attest that Mister Konstantinos Dimidis […] has manufactured printers’ type and a small printing press and opened a printing house and printed passports and announcements to the Press”.
Document, 30 x 20.3 cm.
Copy of declaration under oath signed by notables Anagnostis Monarchidis and Konstantinos Nikodimos from Psara on 16 September 1863, in favour of Konstantions Dimidis, member of Filiki Etaireia and revolutionary. Dimidis had been trained as gunsmith and printer in Paris, and from 1821 to 1824 he was in Psara, where he set up a makeshift printing house and, according to a testimony, was about to publish a newspaper. His efforts came to an end due to the destruction of Psara in July 1824.
