Publications on Callas all over the world
Maria Callas’ art and personality
have inspired countless writers worldwide,
who wrote and are still writing about her,
either to study the secrets of her voice and her interpretation,
or tell the story of her career,
or even reveal aspects of her personal life.
The publishing output on Callas is enormous,
stretching from Canada to South Africa
and from Guatemala to Japan.
The National Library of Greece has a collection
of publications on the great soprano,
which was enriched in 2022 with the significant donation
of about 1800 printed books by Benedict Gagelmann
that reflect the breadth of international literature on Callas.
Part of the Gagelmann’s collection
is presented in this exhibition for the first time.
