Urban Trace

Ruins have always fascinated Markos Kampanis. Looking at the built environment, he was more attracted to an abandoned or dilapidated building than one that would be described as a “monument”. Occasionally we find works with details from ancient Athens, Delos, Delphi, Mount Athos, the Cyclades, etc. In 2018 he focused on the industrial abandoned buildings of the Tavros area in Athens and the works were presented in an exhibition entitled Urban Trace at the Historical Archive of the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation. They are works based on field observation, photographs and the internet through the Google Earth application and deal with the alterations brought about by time. A journey with an ultimate goal, not a romantic look at the past, but the creation of something new through the image of destruction and desolation.
